This is my best friend called Kevin. He’s 17, gay and he’s out to his friends. I was the first person he came out to four years ago. He’s an author and poet among many other things. He’s the sort of person who would help others in their time of need. He’s a warm, loving, and gentle person…who i often misunderstood. See, he comes from a very homophobic family. I will never forget the day he came to me and told me that his mum had locked him in a room and nearly killed him with a knife before beating him with multiple objects. Although it was 4 years ago, he still has scars all down his legs from the abuse. But this wasn’t the end of it, he was to experience 4 more years of abuse from his family.
He has tried to commit suicide so many times, most of those times I have been the one to calm him down and make him put down the knife, or noose, or gun.
People need to realise that homosexuality is anything but a choice. this post may not change much, but I just want people to be that things like this happen in the world. There are scientific and psychological studies which strongly suggest that sexuality is something you are born with. It is not acquired during life, it cannot be changed.
Being homophobic is being ignorant.
